About the Sport Management Master’s Program at TROY

Do you have a passion for sports? Are you interested in gaining knowledge about the intricacies of the sport industry? The Master of Science in Sport Management is designed to propel its graduates into leadership roles in a diverse and evolving sports industry. The sport management graduate program is offered in both traditional and fully online formats and is one of only a few in the world that is accredited by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).

Pathway to success

The educational experience offered by the program facilitates the development of students’ analytical and critical thinking capabilities as well as enhances oral and written communication skills. The program is designed to create an integrated academic learning environment for analyzing and resolving challenges in the sport industry. As students move through the program, they learn through a variety of mediums including lectures, seminars and practical experience through event and program execution and design. Students also have the option to complete an internship for career preparation.

The Sport Management faculty at TROY possesses expertise in a variety of areas acquired through their practical experiences in the sport industry, including professional, collegiate, recreational and high school. This experience allows faculty to provide students with unique insight into the industry and enriches students’ learning experiences by integrating their knowledge of the industry and their research expertise. The faculty is also student-centered indicating their dedication to student achievement and success.

The sport industry is valued at over $400 billion, and its growth is expected to continue for their foreseeable future. This growth has produced an increase in employment opportunities resulting in a demand for individuals with advanced sport management degrees. So, whether a student’s plans are to start his or her career or pursue a doctoral degree, a graduate of TROY’s sport management master’s program will be prepared with the knowledge and skills to succeed. A Graduate Program in Sport Management with Internships and Study Abroad

TROY’s sport management master’s program offers two internship courses to help you gain job-relevant experience in the field and further develop your skills. Through these hands-on experiences, you’ll apply what you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world settings. 

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to study abroad and examine the differences between U.S. sports management and that of your chosen country.

Faculty Profiles

Christina Martin, Ph.D.

Christina Martin, Ph.D.

Dr. Christina Martin received a Ph.D. in Human Performance and Recreation with an Emphasis in Administration and Teaching from the University of Southern Mississippi and a M.S. in Sport Administration from Mississippi State University. Dr. Martin has taught various sport management courses including: Economics, Entrepreneurship, Event Management, Legal Aspects, Research Methods, Risk Management, Sport Foundations, Sport Communication, Sport Marketing and Sport Pedagogy. Dr. Martin also served her professional community as a past-member on the Board of Commissioners for the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). She continues to serve her profession through her work as a COSMA Program Mentor and through COSMA accreditation site visits as a site-team member. Dr. Martin was named to the 2021 COSMA Hall of Fame as a Master Professor as well as named as the 2020 Sun Belt Conference Faculty Member of the Year at ϱ University.
Anthony Dixon, Ph.D.

Anthony Dixon, Ph.D.

Dr. Anthony Dixon earned his doctoral degree from Clemson University in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management with an emphasis in sport, tourism, and economic development. Dr. Dixon earned his Master of Business Administration from East Carolina University in 2002. Dr. Dixon teaches finance, event management, research methods, and senior seminar.
Win Koo, Ph.D.

Win Koo, Ph.D.

Dr. Win Koo earned his doctoral degree from the University of Arkansas in Recreation and Sport Management with an emphasis in Sport Marketing and Statistics. Dr. Koo received a M.S. in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Management and a B.S. in Sports & Leisure Studies from Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. He teaches sport marketing, sport finance, research methods, and statistics while his research interests include the various aspects of marketing and consumer behavior in sports.
MinKil Kim, Ph.D.

MinKil Kim, Ph.D.

Dr. MinKil Kim received a Ph.D. and a M.S. in sport management from University of Florida and B.S. in Marketing from University of Alabama. He teaches courses such as Sport Marketing, Sport Finance, Sport Administration, Sport Communication, Sport Consumer Behavior, Research Methods, and Statistics.
Harriet Dixon, Ph.D.

Harriet Dixon, Ph.D.

Dr. Harriet E. T. Dixon earned a Ph.D in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management from Clemson University and a M.S. in Recreation and Leisure Facilities and Services Administration from East Carolina University. Dr. Dixon teaches in the area of Tourism, including: Festivals and Events, Sustainability, Current Issues, Working In Tourism, and Global Tourism. In addition, Dr. Dixon leads Study Abroad trips in the School of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management. Dr. Dixon has practical experience working in Community Recreation and Tourism.
