Start Your Nursing Career Sooner with TROY’s ASN Program

Excited to get your nursing career started? ϱ’s two-year Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) provides the shortest route to becoming a registered nurse (RN). At TROY, you’ll receive the education and training you need to sit for and pass the NCLEX-RN, giving you the credential you need to become a licensed RN in the U.S. Our ASN program is located on TROY’s Montgomery Campus, a small, urban campus in the heart of Alabama’s capital. Our downtown location gives you easy access to incredible clinical experiences at major hospitals and trauma centers, including Baptist Medical Center South, Jackson Hospital and Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama.

When you pursue the Associate of Science in Nursing at TROY, you’ll learn from exceptionally educated faculty with decades of experience. Our faculty stay active in their clinical areas to remain updated on practices and policies while preparing you for nursing jobs. Our faculty maintain active RN licenses in Alabama and are certified to teach their specific courses.

When you receive your associate nursing degree from TROY, you’ll graduate from a program with a 100% job placement rate. You’ll find our graduates working in nursing jobs in a range of settings and specialty areas, such as addiction, cardiovascular, critical care, genetics, pediatrics, public health and rehabilitation. And the nursing profession has a bright outlook — the (BLS) projects employment of RNs to grow 6% through 2031.

Leading-Edge Labs, Clinicals and Nursing Courses, Offered Day and Night

The TROY Associate of Science in Nursing is a five-semester ASN program with in-person courses on the Montgomery Campus. In 2022, TROY expanded course offerings to include to provide more flexibility for working adults in the Montgomery area.

As a nursing student, you’ll spend a lot of time in our dedicated nursing labs at Bartlett Hall and in the School of Nursing building. You’ll also engage in hands-on learning opportunities during clinical rotations at nearby hospitals and trauma centers. Through all of these experiences, you’ll learn to effectively and safely perform nursing skills such as wound care dressing change, urinary catheter insertion, nasogastric tube insertion, hygiene, vital signs, head-to-toe assessment, IV insertion, central line dressing change, tracheostomy care and medication administration.

Careers with the TROY ASN Degree

After earning your associate nursing degree and passing the NCLEX-RN, you can work as a registered nurse (RN) in a range of healthcare settings. Your ASN degree is also the first step toward advanced nursing degrees such as the B.S.N., M.S.N., D.N.P and Ph.D.

Amanda Dunagan

Amanda Dunagan

Amanda Dunagan, Assistant Professor, holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from TROY and a Master of Science in Nursing - Clinical Nurse Leader (MSN, CNL) from the University of Alabama. She earned a Ph.D. in nursing education and administration at William Carey University. Her research interests are in infection control and quality improvement. Her clinical focus is in medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing and pediatric nursing.

Network with peers, mentors, and alumni while building leadership skills and having fun through organizations such as Alpha Psi Nu, ASN Honor Society and Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society. You can also grow personally and professionally and develop cultural sensitivity and competence by participating in transformative study abroad programs. You may even qualify for the Chancellor’s Award for Global Competitiveness (CAGC) to help fund your TROY study abroad trip.

ASN, which stands for Associate of Science in Nursing, is a degree program that prepares students to become registered nurses (RNs). An ASN typically takes about two years to complete and requires passing the NCLEX-RN, a national exam for the licensing of nurses.
