Historical Sketch: Tammy Holman, a teacher at Dothan, Alabama, private school Houston Academy, assigned her 11th grade American History students to conduct individual oral history projects. Students generally interviewed their older Wiregrass-area relatives and family friends, focusing on veterans and heir war time experiences. Other interviews include civilian war time responses, responses to other historical events, and narrators from outside the Wiregrass area. Holman assigns the project every year and has made her requirements more detailed over time. Accessions from later years include more transcripts, release forms, and biographical data than in earlier years.

Scope Content: Consists of recorded oral history interviews, some transcripts, and associated paperwork such as release forms. Also contains biographical information for most narrators as well as copies of photographs, military certificates, newspaper articles, and war time correspondence. Interviews contain information on the narrator's childhood, education, military or civilian war time experiences, and later life. Military experiences include the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Wars in Iraq. Some interviews cover civilian responses to other historical events such as the Great Depression, the Civil Rights Movement, etc. Interviews are stored on various recording media, predominantly in video format but few include transcripts.

Organization: Arranged alphabetically by narrator's last name (See Processing Note).

Provenance: The oral histories were given to the archives by Mrs. Holman from the 2007-2008 school year (See Historical Sketch).

Processing Notes: Accession's original arrangement was alphabetical by the student interviewer's last name. For purposes of access, The Wiregrass Archives staff changed the arrangement to alphabetical by narrator's last name. Processor also determined that the materials, though in different formats, formed a single series. Documents and recording media are housed in different locations.
