Biographical Sketch: W. David Hunter was an engineer for Alabama Power Company.  He is a member of the Columbia Historical Society of Columbia, Alabama, and edits its newsletter, The Old Columbia Chronicle.

Scope / Content: Contains 1 recipe book: Houston County HDC [Home Demonstration Club] Recipes, 1949.  Book is 28 cm, 30 leaves.

Originally bound by stitched twine down the "spine"; later 2 staples were added to reinforce the binding. 

There are approximately 150 recipes collected from women of various communities/towns around the county. Recipes cover breads, cakes, cookies & small cakes, desserts & icings/frostings, meat & meat dishes, pies, pickles, salads & salad dressings, vegetable & vegetable dishes, and drinks. Dishes include cornbread, orange loaf cake, devil's food cake, doughnuts, apple cinnamon puffs, baked pork chops, Irish stew, fried oysters, pecan pie, crystalized pickles, chicken salad, Waldorf salad, hominy, corn pudding, and mixed fruit punch.

Provenance: Mr. Hunter found the book when looking over a house he was renovating.
