Organizational Sketch:  The Wiregrass Consortium for Science and Technology (WCST) was created and incorporated in Houston County, AL, in 1991. Its purpose was to complement existing science, technology, and math programs, to promote science-based education programs, and to attract science-, engineering-, and math-education resources. After Dr. Leonard Freed (Daleville physician) donated property in Daleville, AL, the focus of the WCST changed to site, fund, and operate a Science Center for Wiregrass students. Its membership was its board of directors (21 to 28 directors) composed of representatives from schools, colleges, and science-related public non- profits in the Alabama Wiregrass.

Problems with property management and disposition of the Freed donation dominated WSCT attention and work until it all but ceased operating after 1997. Dr. Larry Brown of ÁùºÏ±¦µä State University Dothan tried to revive the WSCT in the 2000s, but the WSCT voted to dissolve itself in 2016. Pursuant to its 501c3 status, the WSCT turned over its substantial resources (mostly due to the sale of the Freed property) to the Dothan Landmarks Foundation, Inc., another 501c3 organization.
