Employment Opportunities

ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio had no full-time staff vacancies during the above period of time.

Recruiting Initiatives

  • ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio participated in the Annual Career Fair at ÁùºÏ±¦µä's Trojan Center Ballrooms. Program Manager, Fred Azbell represented the station. While ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio had no openings at the time, students of all majors were given the opportunity to have their questions answered about career opportunities that are available at the station from time to time. The station provided handouts detailing station positions, skills and responsibilities necessary to qualify for those positions. Program schedules and other information were also made available to interested students. While turnout was relatively light with only a few inquiries from students in attendance, but two resumes from minority candidates were taken with an eye to future openings.
  • ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio was represented by Joanne Jacobs at the Trenholm Annual Spring Job Fair on April 20, 2011. The event was attended by a steady stream of approximately 150 job seekers between the hours of 9 a.m. – Noon. The attendees comprised a balanced mix of students, graduates and professionals. A display table was used to provide information detailing staff positions at ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio, station program guides and promotional pieces referencing station frequencies and call letters. Several inquiries about positions and qualifications were made with approximately 30 persons showing interest in pursuing a position with the station. A number of resumes were submitted.
  • ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio maintained a display table at the Fort Rucker Job Fair held at the Enterprise, Al Civic Center. The station's program manager, Fred Azbell, represented the station at this event. Approximately five thousand attendees participated in this broad outreach event on behalf of the Ft. Rucker Army Community Service Employment Readiness Program and the Enterprise Chamber of Commerce. Four resumes were received for future openings.
  • ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio participated in the Fall Career Fair at ÁùºÏ±¦µä main campus on October 5, 2011. The station's Program Manager, Fred Azbell, represented the stations (WTSU-WRWA-WTJB) win an information table set up to provide data for interested job seekers. Five inquiries were made by individuals representing areas of study and experience such as Journalism and Marketing. One resume was received for future consideration. The Program Manager answered all questions and promoted public radio's career opportunities.
  • Approved and contracted with a summer intern May 16, 2011 – July 22, 2011. The intern worked 30 hours per week. During this time, he trained and developed skills for on-air work to include operation of the audio board, news, use of automation system, traffic software, programming and audio editing. Worked with Chief Engineer on technical matters. He was assigned as board operator/announcer on several shifts after extensive training.
  • ÁùºÏ±¦µä Public Radio maintains a partnership with the ÁùºÏ±¦µä City School system and the Pike County school system to provide opportunities for high school students to serve as announcers for the Radio Reading Service for the blind. Through the Global Studies Program, we had 18 students participating in the September 20, 2011 orientation/training session, providing the opportunity to read a section of a regional newspaper to acquire "hands-on" experience using radio recording equipment. Upon completion of the group session, students have the opportunity to sign up as a volunteer to read on a weekly basis during September – November.
